City of Pearland now accepting Household Hazardous Waste

Starting October 3, 2011, Waste Management, Pearland's contractor for curbside solid waste and recycling, will begin collecting residential Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) directly from curbside by request. This service is provided to City residents at no additional cost. Call (800) 449-7587, M-F, 6a.m.–6p.m., or email atyourdoor@wm.com to request this 'on-demand' service.

If items are ineligible for pickup (i.e., not labeled or leaking) the resident will be contacted in person, by phone, or via ‘door-hanger’ with instructions. Residents do not have to be home for the collection to occur. For questions, call 281-489-2795 or visit www.cityofpearland.com/solidwaste.

  • Pesticides
  • Herbicides
  • Rust Removers
  • Swimming Pool Chemicals
  • Wood Preservatives
  • Used Oil Filters
  • Batteries: Vehicle and Household
  • Fluorescent Tubes
  • Chlorine Bleach
  • Drain Openers
  • Corrosive Chemicals: Lye and Muriatic Acid
  • Hobby Chemicals
  • Lubricants: Used Motor Oil, Used Transmission Fluid, Gear Oil
  • Paint Products: Oil, Latex, Spray, Stripper
  • Paint Thinners
  • Automotive Chemicals: Waxes, Polishes, Cleaners, Brake Fluid, Gasoline and Antifreeze
  • Sharps: Must originate from the home and be contained in a sealed solid container prior to collection
  • Consumer Electronics: TV’s, computers, peripheral items (keyboards, mouse and printers) and microwave ovens
  • No large appliances are accepted in this program; ‘E-Waste ’is limited to one TV of any size, one computer system, and 20 pounds of peripheral items per collection

Pearland's National Night Out Scheduled for October 4, 2011

Join your neighbors for the 28th annual National Night Out on Tuesday, October 4, 2011. This year's theme is "Neighbors Knowing Neighbors." Neighbors are encouraged to gather with at neighborhood block parties to build spirit and unity. Research shows that when neighbors know each other and look out for suspicious activity in their area, crime goes down.

Register your neighborhood's block party with the police department to ensure visits by officers, fire fighters and ambulance personnel. Materials and giveaways will be handed out to children and adults during the visits.

New Homestead Exemption Rules Effective September 1, 2011

The Texas Legislature recently approved new standards of documentation when applying for a Homestead Exemption. As of September 1, 2011, homebuyers are required to provide the following when making application to their county appraisal district:

*Driver's License or ID card - Must list the physical address of primary residence
*Vehicle Registration - Must list the physical address of primary residence (Special provisions apply if you do not own a vehicle)
*Your Residential Homestead Application - Must list the physical address of primary residence
