Keeping Your Children Safe
As the summertime approaches, many of us will be headed to crowded public places with our children. While these activities are certainly something to look forward to, they are also opportunities for us as parents to practice safety measures with our children to prevent the unthinkable from happening.
My mothers of multiples club had a speaker from the Laura Recovery Center of Friendswood at our monthly meeting last night. It was a huge eye opener to hear stories of how many children (preschoolers to teenagers) are victums of abductions each year. The Laura Recovery Center has done an amazing job at helping bring home many children in all parts of the nation, but there are still those unsolved cases that we all need to learn from and help prevent this tragic situation from happening to us or those that we love.
The Laura Recovery Center provided some great handouts and I'll post the General Tips for keeping your children safe here. Please check out their website at http://www.LRCF.org for additional educational materials. Through their secure website you can create an online child ID kit, request speakers to attend your group's meeting, learn more about prevention, how to get involved with the organization and read about Laura's story and how it drove her family to establish the Laura Recovery Center. My mom's group is hoping to organize a class for the children to learn, in a safe and fun manner, about staying safe and what to do in emergency situations. If you're intersted, please leave a comment and I'll be sure to contact you when we have a meeting date set.
